ONE EARTH, PROMISEANG & VALORISH Projects Join Forces: A Collaborative Cluster for a Greener Tomorrow.

This strategic cluster has been established with a common objective: to advance innovation in waste valorization, sustainable biotechnologies, and circular bioeconomy practices. By bringing together scientific expertise, pioneering research, and industry-driven insights, the collaboration seeks to enhance the development and application of bio-based solutions across multiple sectors.

Through this joint effort, the cluster aims to contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable, resource-efficient, and resilient future.

Cluster Partners:

VALORISH is a research project funded under the Horizon Europe framework aligned with HORIZON-CL6-2023-CIRCBIO-02.

VALORISH aims to create a zero-waste, circular biorefinery that transforms fish waste and by-products into valuable bio-based products. These products can be used in food, health supplements, and food additives, using innovative and sustainable technologies.

The project focuses on:

  • Extracting useful ingredients like fish oil and fish protein hydrolysates (FPH) from fish industry waste
  • Using FPH to create new products through fermentation
  • Turning all remaining materials into valuable outputs to ensure nothing is wasted
  • Testing and improving these processes using advanced digital tools
  • Demonstrating the technology at a pilot scale (TRL 5)
  • Evaluating the environmental, economic, and social benefits of these solutions
  • Sharing results widely through communication, dissemination, and exploitation activities

VALORISH supports a cleaner planet by giving new life to what was once waste – a great step toward a circular and sustainable future!

The PROMISEANG project, funded by the European Union, is dedicated to unlocking the potential of underutilized marine resources—such as invertebrate and macroalgae discards—as well as industrial biowaste and by-products. By applying sustainable fermentation techniques using fungi, yeast, and bacteria, PROMISEANG aims to produce high-quality microbial protein biomass. These innovative proteins will be suitable for a wide range of applications, including food, animal feed, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

PROMISEANG aims to demonstrate a cost-effective, eco-friendly biorefinery model for microbial protein production — achieving high yields, faster processing times, and lower environmental impact. Following a zero-waste approach, the project will also extract and synthesize valuable non-protein bio-compounds to further support circular bioeconomy goals across multiple sectors.
